La idea de la tienda Black Market nació en el invierno del 2001. Ocho años antes había empezado a viajar por África occidental con motivo de un proyecto sobre el arte contemporáneo africano. Como todo en la vida, una cosa lleva a otra, y me encuentro ahora con una tienda llena de la mezcla de esa África milenaria y joven, profunda y alegre.
Las experiencias vividas, la gente conocida con la que he podido compartir momentos mágicos, son recuerdos para siempre. Y lo mejor: todo lo que queda, tantos caminos por recorrer, nuevos encuentros y reencuentros.
Black Market, con espíritu de mercado negro, tan necesario para moverse por África, como hoy en día por la vida.

The idea for Black Market first came up in the winter of 2001. I'd been travelling around West Africa for a contemporary African art project over the previous eight years and, as is so often the case in life, one thing led to another. As a result I find myself with a shop full of the quintessential ancient and young, deep and joyful, African mixture.
Memories of experiences and the people I've met and shared magic moments with along the way will stay with me always. Best of all is that there's so much left to do, so many unexplored paths to tread, new friends to make and old friends to revisit. 
The black market has long been an integral part of daily trade and life in Africa, and occurs increasingly in our lives nowadays.
